Terrible 2's

Oh Brady Brady Brady....

We are definitely in the midst of the terrible two's with this child and we are learning patience like never before :)  Chase was more of a terrible 3 so we are hoping we are going through it with Brady early and it will end earlier..one can dream right?!  I was dying laughing the other night because I was looking through my blog from Brady's first year and I seriously write in almost every post about what an easy baby he is.  I constantly said he was super easy-going, laid back and just a happy baby!

He is still a very happy laid back kid but he is MR. INDEPENDENT and it can make us crazy!  He doesn't sit still for a second, is constantly on the go and getting into something.  He isn't a huge fan of toys, instead he wanders the house looking for ways to be destructive - lol!  You think I'm kidding but you know he's active when he sits still for like 10 minutes and friends and family witnessing it say "Wow he is so calm right now!"  Haa!

Let's talk about sleeping.... He does not sleep..not when we are used to Chase who would sleep through our house burning down.  The last 3 nights something has happened and Brady has actually slept all night (thank the lord) but until then he would literally wake up a couple times a night yelling for us or crying for over an hour at a time.  Yet he would still wake up at 5:30-6am bright eyed and bushy-tailed!  He just doesn't need very much sleep.  So either we are turning a corner the last few nights or he is growing or something, but Craig and I have been loving a full nights sleep :)  Just in time to have a new baby - lol!

I wanted to write this post to really capture some of Brady's independent tendencies as I know, even as hard as he can be, we will look back in years to come and wish he was 2 again!

The funny part is people around us notice how independent and old he is for his age too.  I get comments from Mom's at daycare all the time that they crack up at him in the morning or evening because he is soo talkative and they can see that he acts like he is 20 instead of 2 :)

He is a smart kid and has known his colors, shapes and has had an amazing vocabulary for months now!  He isn't as coordinated as Chase was at this age (hitting baseballs, riding scooters, etc) but his talking and mental abilities are way ahead.  I'm not saying he is gifted or anything (I can't stand those parents) but for right now he is definitely ahead of the curve!

So what does he need to do on his own?  EVERYTHING!

Let me do a quick breakdown of a typical morning trying to get out the door to daycare:

*   In the morning he has to pick what show he wants to watch, we have to read every single episode title of Mickey or Dora and then he picks which one he wants to watch while we get ready
*   He has to try and put his shoes on most days even though he can't and will eventually ask for help
*   We will ask what he wants for breakfast and most days he has to be the one to get the waffles out of the freezer, get a yogurt out of the fridge, press the button on the toaster to cook the waffles.  Then he wants to press the Keurig button to make our coffee.  He also must hold the bag containing his waffle (or whatever he has, bagel, etc) while walking to the car and driving to school.
*   He has to climb into his carseat himself and most times he will climb all over the car, except get in his carseat, and make us crazy in the process
*   Once in the carseat, guess who has to buckle?  Yup, you guessed it!  He has to buckle himself.  Sometimes he can do all 3 buckles but othertimes he gets frustrated and will finally ask for help.
*   He requests the Lumineers cd everytime we ride in my car - specific songs of course :)
*   Once at daycare, he has to climb out of the car himself
*   He gets his own paper towel in his room to put on the table to put his breakfast on.

Let's just say it is not a fast process..we have learned to try and slow down and not gets frustrated with the amount of time it takes.  It's hard when you are running late though!

At night the whole process repeats:
*  Must climb in car and buckle himself, etc etc....
*  At night he has started doing showers so he has to turn it on himself and he turns the water off himself
*  He has to brush his teeth on his own
*  Has to pick out his own jammies
*  Has to pick what books we read and take them out of the bookshelf himself

And I could go on and on and on all day.  It probably sounds like he controls our household and sometimes we feel that way too - haha - but I assure you there is a lot of discipline happening as well and we still try to remain the parents in the situation :)

One thing we have learned with parenting though is that every child is different and the way we have to talk, parent, work with Chase and Brady are completely opposite.  It will be so interesting to see what our 3rd child is like :)

Some of my favorite sayings from Brady at this age are:

*  "Please sleep with me?"  He started saying this recently when we put him to bed and he sounds so sweet and sad that it suckers you in sometimes :)
*  "No pee, no pee, no pee"  I had to write this one down because as soon as Brady gets out of the bath or shower he will hold his private parts and run to his room yelling this while he goes to pick out jammies!  Craig and I die!
*  "I do it myself" Yup we hear that one about 100 times a day
*  "I was a good listener today/I wasn't a good listener today"  He tells use that he either was a good listener or wasn't a good listener when we pick him up from daycare everyday.  The funny part is he will say he wasn't right in front of his teachers and they will say, Yes he was!  Who knows, I think he thinks it's funny to say :)
*  "So awesome"  He likes to say things or events were "soooo awesome" and he makes a dramatic face
*  "I played with Emmy, Ivy, Mason and Zachary"  These are his buddies at school that he tells us he plays with everyday

He has a full vocabulary and talks in complete sentences but these are just some of my favorite common sayings that I want to remember :)

You are a crazy 2 year old Brady but we adore you and your independent nature.  It will be so fun and interesting to see how much that personality benefits you as you get older!
