Neighborhood Easter Egg Hunt

About 3 weeks before Easter I decided that our neighborhood needed to have our own Easter egg hunt so I emailed our HOA to ask if I could put one on!  For the past couple of years I couldn't understand why we didn't have one and we always had to go somewhere else for our kids to do a big egg hunt.  Our HOA approved it and gave me some money and I ran with it!  At first I thought I was a little insane to try and pull this off on top of 3 kids and working full time but honestly, I LOVED having this project and it gave me a major sense of fulfillment to work hard on something that I knew so many people would appreciate and benefit from!  Plus, I was not short of people wanting to help so it actually was pretty easy to do!

I have some awesome neighbors who volunteered to come fill eggs and drink wine one Saturday night and we were able to fill about 1000 of the 1700 I bought.  Throughout the week Craig and the boys and I spent a few different nights finishing them up and it was actually a very fun family project :) (Besides the times Brady would open up all the eggs after we finished them or when he would take them and hide them in the house but hey, he keeps life interesting - haa!)

All ready to go for Saturday morning!

The hardest part was hand delivering and taping these flyers to all 319 homes in our neighborhood!  My biggest helper was Chase and he loved coming with me to do it!  I also had one neighbor help me do about 100 of them and we did a big chunk of the neighborhood as a family of 5 while walking around together.

Getting ready to start Saturday morning!

I was sooo happy to see such a great turnout!!

I had everyone go hunt in 3 groups....1st was ages 2 and under, 2nd was ages 4 and under and 3rd was everyone.  It was so cute to let the 2 and under go first and give the parents a chance to get some cute pictures before the older kids went crazy!

Brady collecting some eggs during the 4 and under group!

And now EVERYONE!

Unfortunately, the week of the egg hunt we received Chase's baseball schedule and his first game was at the exact same time!  And since Craig is the coach they both had to miss the egg hunt and I had to miss the first baseball game :(  Chase was so bummed that after he helped so much that he had to miss it!  But telling him we would save him a bunch of eggs smoothed things over.  I was stressed that Craig wouldn't be there to help me but once again my neighborhood friends came to the rescue and helped me set up that morning!  It was such a fun event and so incredibly fulfilling.  So many people came up to thank me and were so grateful that we did it.  It was pretty fun to think that we created "their family's Easter egg hunt" and were able to provide that setting for people to get pictures of their little kids first egg hunt, etc.  It was also a really great way to meet more of our neighbors - so many young families and fun people live around us :)
I can't wait till next year to have the 2nd annual!!!
